Mumbai: The City that Never Sleeps

Mumbai is India’s commercial capital, its entertainment capital, and is famously known as the city that never sleeps. Mumbai is India’s busiest and most-populous city, with the 2011 Census of India estimating that 12 million call it home. Gateway of India This magnificent monument was built to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder in Mumbai in 1911. It now welcomes tourists from all over the world, and stands tall in front of the famous Taj Mahal Hotel. You can also take a carriage-ride around the area in quaint contraptions known as Victorias – horse-drawn carriages named for Britain’s second-longest reigning monarch. A weekend getaway to the nearby Elephanta Caves is a great option. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Caves consist of some stunning Hindu and Buddhist religious sculptures, some of which are estimated to be nearly 1200 years old.
